Volume 1 Number 3
Summer 2001
By Don Mallinson, President

Just in time for the last days of summer, the Summer edition of SHO Club magazine is now out!  It was mailed right after the terrible events in New York and Washington D.C.  I hope its arrival in your mailbox helps bring you back to a somewhat normal existence.  All of us will be effected for quite a while, but I firmly believe we honor those that lost their lives the best by going on with life and keeping the United States the best place to live and work.

I doubt if the recent events will stop any of the flow of people into this country.  There is still no better place in the world for opportunity for those that will work for it.

Enough politics.

SHO Classifieds Continue to Grow!

Have you checked out the SHO Club classifieds lately?  If not, you may be amazed that we have hundreds of SHO's and SHO parts for sale, and even a good collection of people looking FOR an SHO or a SHO part!   These are free ($10 fee if you want a color picture included) and most of the on-line classifieds will make it into the magazine.

If you use the classifieds, be sure to let us know when you no longer need the ad run.  Ads will drop off of old age after about 3-4 months.  If you call on an ad and it isn't for sale or wanted anymore, please let me know so I can delete it and it won't cause anyone else a frustrating call for nothing.

SHO V8 Cam Problems

We have now identified a problem with the SHO V8 cams.  There is quite a bit of information on it on SHOclub.com, check it out: HERE

SHO Club, Tim Wright, and several others are working to come up with some solutions and possible relief for V8 owners.  We know that the problem of the slave sprockets coming loose can happen to any of the four cams, and it can happen to any year SHO.  The solution for now, on cars that are out-of-warranty, is to have a VERY good welder TIG weld the sprocket to the cam shaft in three equally spaced locations.  You can use a MIG welder, but it isn't as neat, but a good welder will do just as good of a job.

Is there any relief for those with a warranty?  First, if you do have a warranty, right now you have to wait for a failure to get the cams fixed.  Chances are one cam will fail, and that cam will be replaced.  A failure could cause problems with valves and maybe pistons.  Once your motor is fixed, you might have three more cams go bad in a short space of time.  Try to get them to weld the cams while the motor is apart, do ALL FOUR!  We are trying to talk with Ford and Yamaha about options.  We will let you know when we get something to report.  Watch the main page of SHOclub.com and the V8 Chronicles pages.

WINTER!

OK, I just said a bad word.  Before long leaves will be falling and snow might be collecting.  I love Fall, but the bad thing is that Winter is real close.  Be sure to give your vehicles a good detail before bad weather arrives (for those living in warm climates, just continue to be smug, all the rest of us envy you!).   Wash, use Detail Clay to get rid of contaminants, Glaze to get rid of fine scratches and haze and then Wax to protect.  Don't forget the interior and engine compartment.  Check out the Car Care Tips on http://www.dccarcare.com

That's it for now, enjoy your SHO, and let's keep America rolling!
