Save those memories with a professional photo or disk:

Digital Race Photography was at the SHO Convention again in 2006! Every attempt was made to photograph all cars in the SHOw and on the three track events, probably multiple times.  Prints, posters, or CD's of all or some of your prints can be purchased now or soon online. The DRP photographer uses a top quality digital camera, and you get wonderful prints and posters.  I think it is well worth it to get the full download or CD with everything on it.  IF you didn't order one at the convention you can visit their web site at:  www.digitalracephotography.com or phone at 512-260-8400 E-mail is: jack@jackpuryear.com.

Overview of the week:

Sunday Evening:
Pre-Convention dinner with the Mallinsons at Anna's Steakhouse,  6963 US 70, Bartlett, TN 38133.  Good food enjoyed by all along with all the Elvis memorabilia you could stand!

Monday: July, 17th, 2006
Registration all day at the hotel cars arrived, people met old friends and many too tours of the city.

GOLF on Monday with Ron Porter.  A small but enthusiastic group went to a local course on both Monday and Tuesday, had lots of fun.

Tuesday: July 18th, 2006

The annual Car SHOw was a hit with great looking and super clean SHO's everywhere.  The "Road Warriors" Class for cars that are not in the show for judging was also a hit with cars with lots of history displayed with a description of what made them special cars.

The very first SHO N GO award was awarded to the SHO that performed the best in the SHOw, Autocross and Drags, along with getting bonus points for participating in the non-timed Road Course event.

A general meeting was held at 12:30 to help orient drivers to the procedure for the track events.

Then many people went to the holy grail of rock, Graceland.

Tuesday evening we went as a group to a Blues City Cafe for great food and over 30 SHO's parked right on Beale Street for a cruise-in.  An honor not allowed for just every group that visits Memphis.

Wednesday: July 19th, 2006

Track Day at Memphis Motorsports Park.  about 45 SHOs and a few Non-SHOs ran this fun course that was a LOT more entertaining than the track map might indicate.  There were no serious offs, and only a few cars had problems, most getting fixed and healthy by days end.

Go to THIS LINK to read a hot lap of MMP's road course.  NOTE: this description uses a different corner numbering than the one below.

Also on tuesday, several in the group took advantage of our special price for the Race-On Driving Experience to either ride in a Busch series car, or drive one.  Great huge grins were the order of the day despite the 100+ degree heat.

After the day at the track, we went to Isaac Hayes restaurant just off Beale Street for great food.

Thursday: July 20th, 2006

Another day at Memphis Motorsports Park as we ran two events at the same time, an SCCA style autocross with a challenging 50 second course, plus drags at the 1/4 mile MMP track that is home to the NHRA O'Reilly Nationals each year.

The Banquet Thursday night at the host hotel raised about $3200 for the American Cancer Society, and well over 100 people got great food, and saw a lot of trophies and awards presented.

After the Banquet, the parking lot was alive with talk and a few beers as people unwound and got in more SHO stories before heading to homes in over 30 states and Canada.

Friday: July 21st, 2006
This was not an official convention day, but many people stayed a day or two to see more of the Memphis area.

SPECIAL THANK YOU:

On a personal note, I'd like to thank a group of people who have helped to provide excellent feedback, advice, and invaluable assistance during my inaugural year in leading the SHO Convention: Joseph Van Oss, Larry Eck, Jim Eurenius, George Fourchy, Tony Fullone, Kerby Haltom, Ryan Pasche, Bill Strobel and Paul Thomas.

Thank you to all of these great guys!

THANKS TO THE VENDORS THAT ARE CONTRIBUTING TO THE CONVENTION OR THE DOOR PRIZES OR CHARITY AUCTION.  Check them out and buy from them.  These are good people!

Beaumont Metal Works Contact Rob Frink, and when visiting the site click on the Track Jack Stands link for the neatest compact jack stands you will ever see.  Get a chance to bid on a set at the convention for charity!

Beyond 2006:

The committee has set a course that looks good through 2008.  I may finally realize my dream of getting things done more than a year in advance.  2007 is looking good but we haven't announced the location just yet.

What we will announce is that 2008 is planned for Seattle Washington.  Why are we announcing this and NOT 2007?  Because we know that Seattle is about as far from the bulk of SHO folk as you can get and be in the continental US.  We want you to be planning and saving up for a great drive out and a really special event.  George Fourchy and the Bay SHO group that put on such a great event in 2004 will work with the NorthWest SHO Club (NWSHOC) and Kurt Gutzka to plan an event we don't want you to miss, so make plans now!

Thanks again from the Mallinson Clan, your SHO Club working group for 2006!
