The Ultimate 100% Cotton Polishing Cloth

Bath towels, terry cloth, old diapers, even older t-shirts.  All have been sources for a polishing cloth in lots of garages, including my own, in years past.  For some time I have recommended Sears Best diapers, and they have helped me win lots of trophies and keep my cars looking good.  But time marches on, and I have found something better, and it's low priced so there is no excuse not to use the best! The Ultimate 100% cotton polishing cloth!

The problem with most of the traditional polishing cloth solutions is that they usually are not truly 100% cotton.  Most have either a polyester thread in the seam/edge stitching or they have polyester or nylon in the body of the cloth.  Now DC CarCare offers the finest truly 100% cotton polishing cloth.  This fine weave super soft cloth works much better than the course nap in bath towels.

Bath towels are fine for your skin, but let's be honest, after a couple of washes, even the finest towels start to feel scratchy unless you wash them with softeners which is a big NO-NO for a polishing cloth (softeners can leave streaks in most wax products and they actually hurt the ability of a cloth to absorb moisture/wax).  If that towel feels rough on your skin, what do you think it does to your freshly applied wax?  Right, it leave marks in your wax.   Using bath towels is OK, but there is a better way!

Our white cotton polishing cloths are a big 18 X 19" size (see note on shrinking when washed below) with a loosely stitched cotton thread on the edges to prevent raveling. NOTE: cloths may come with either a white binding thread or red, (some tails of the binding left on the cloth is normal, you can cut these off if they bother you) depending on production availability.  The cloths are the same and the binding is 100% cotton either way.   They will be soft after many washings and won't leave lint.  In fact these cloths were created to be used in special applications in the nuclear, aerospace, government and technical related industries.  So many employees in these companies were "borrowing" these cloths to do their cars with, that the company offered them for that purpose too!  We have sought out this company and purchased them packaged by the dozen at a super low price so we can pass along the savings to you.

NOTE: 100% cotton cloth WILL shrink in washing, here is a letter from a DC CarCare customer:
Don,
I used one of my new soft cotton cloths for buffing wax off my cousin's Chevy Caprice last Sunday, and it removed the stuff like a dream.
Talk about soft.
I had thought about using two cloths at once because they are thin, but one did the trick.
One downside: I washed the cloth with some other stuff on Warm/Cold and then dried on Permanent Press. When I pulled it out of the dryer it had shrunk by at least a third. What a letdown!
It could be that the cycle was too warm for the cloth and/or lasted too long.
At least I learned right away, and I have 11 more left! I'll try a gentler cycle next time or just air dry.
Once again, the cloth performed beautifully as a buffer.

I replied to Jim that noticeable shrinkage of these cloths is normal.  Using cold water wash and low or no heat to dry (or air dry on a line or flat on a counter) will reduce the shrinkage some.  But expect the cloth to shrink no matter how you care for it, that is what 100% cotton does.  The process to "pre-shrink" cotton works well for T-shirts, but would not make for a good polish cloth.  Don't worry though, even if our 100% cotton cloths shrink some, they will still be the best polish cloth you have in your garage, and once washed, they don't shrink much more the second time.

These are the same cloths sold by another major car care "supplier" but I give you two more towels for $2 less!  Here is how a recent customer put it:

"I just received my order of four packages of cotton polishing cloths. Thank you for the speedy service!
"For the last few years I've always ordered these from (that other company). This time I did a Google search on "cotton cloths" and found your site. Your price of $12.95 for 12 cloths was better than their $14.95 for 10 cloths so I gave it a try. Factoring in shipping and tax, the cloths from you end up being $1.30 each versus their $1.79 each. Cool!
"I am VERY pleased with your prompt service and will continue to buy this item from you in the future. I am also sending a link to your site to my four buds who also buy this item online."

Thank you again,
