The Battery Mat

The Battery Mat company came up with a neat solution. One of those AH-HA! products that I love to find. A felt-like pad is impregnated with acid absorbing chemicals. When the pad is placed under the battery, it acts to collect acid fumes coming from the battery and soaks up liquid also to prevent acid from eating under the battery and around the sides. The Battery Mat is thin enough that no modification is needed to the battery mounting system, and the battery stays solidly secure as normal. I used to have to do an annual battery removal and cleaning on my SHO, and no matter how clean I thought I kept it, in the spring there was acid under the tray, and everything had to come apart AGAIN! No more....the Battery Mat keeps things looking good and that annual maintenance is a thing of the past. I still keep an eye on things, and keep those terminals clean and shiny, but corrosion under and near the battery is a thing of the past. NOTE: The Battery Mat can absorb an amazing amount of acid from normal accumulation or even a slow leak, but a busted battery will overwhelm anything. So check your battery often for signs of leaking. If you catch it quick enough the Battery Mat will save your engine compartment! The slight cushioning effect of the Battery Mat helps prevent wear and tear on the bottom of the battery. You can cut the Battery Mat to fit with household scissors or a utility knife. |
